Sandpoint Tomorrow Scholarship Award announced
Nine members of the Class of 2022 students were awarded scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 as part of the Sandpoint Tomorrow Scholarship Award program.
In addition, five continuing scholarships were awarded to college sophomores — members of the Class of 2021 — that ranged from $2,000-$5,000. Recipients are Ellen Clark, Kaya Wright, Olivia Lynch, Darren Bailey and Stephanie Sfeir.
A total of $49,000 was awarded to winners of the Sandpoint Tomorrow Scholarship, which prioritizes students who want to make a positive impact on the world.
The scholarship is open to all students with a 3.5 GPA or higher for any accredited trade and technical schools, as well as traditional four-year universities.
The scholarship is based on two essay questions: “What is the most important thing you have learned so far in your life?” and “If it was in your power to change one thing about our society, what would it be? How would you go about making that change?”
Scholarship officials said it was really humbling to read through all of the scholarship essays and learn how these students are planning to take their education. "Whether it's conservation, dental hygiene, engineering, education or medicine, they all were very passionate about the fields that they were going into, it was really hard to choose," they said.
