SNOW, SLUSH CAUSE ACCIDENTS
Bonner County received sorely needed snow over the weekend, but with it came rain, slick roads and a rash of vehicular accidents. Eleven accidents were reported from Friday night to Monday, two resulting in injuries. Snow fell most of Saturday, with deposits of six inches to a foot. A rapid warming trend and rain soon turned streets and highways to slush and flooded basements. Rain continued off and on Monday, hampering Sandpoint crews working to remove the slush that was mounting on city streets.

CONDO DEL SOL TO OPEN
Condo Del Sol Resort Inn hopes to be open on Christmas Day, said General Manager Ron Anderson, who arrived here four weeks ago to make preliminary arrangements for opening 40 units as a hotel. Anderson works for U.S. Financial, which manages properties owned by Hawaiian Enterprises. Brochures will advertise overnight and long term rental of one- and two-bedroom units at Condo Del Sol. Rates will be just slightly above regular first class motel charges.

Dec. 22, 1922 – RAPID TEMPERATURE RISE
The second lowest recorded temperature here was Sunday morning when the thermometer registered 24 degrees below zero. By Tuesday warmth had returned to such an extent that the thawing and settling of snow on buildings played havoc in many places. Thursday had a maximum temperature of 38 above and Friday morning’s reading was 31. The turn in temperature was marked by an 8-inch snowfall beginning Monday, turning to sleet which fell overnight Tuesday.

CHINOOK DOES MUCH DAMAGE
The most damage done by the recent thaw in this county was to the Rink building in Clarksfork, which collapsed Tuesday, leaving only the rear walls standing. In Sandpoint, damage was done at the postoffice where melting snow sent water streaming into the building’s rear, above the dispatching tables. Postmaster Moore, however, was in the building late Monday when water first began trickling through the ceiling and moved the equipment and mail out of reach of the water. Many homes were affected by the strain upon their roofs from the heavy snow burden and some damage resulted.
