COEUR d'ALENE — Priest River wrestling continued to make waves on the mat Saturday at the North Idaho Rumble.

Six Spartans placed to help Priest River finish 10th out of 18 teams.

The squad didn't get a chance to compete in a handful of duals in Kellogg last Thursday, but they made up for it by taking it to their opponents in Coeur d'Alene.

Colm McLaimtaig (106), Matyus McLain (195) and Helena White (girls 145) all earned fourth in their respective weight classes.

White grabbed a pair of pins and head coach Quinton Holbrook believes the sophomore has a chance to grab a berth to state. She's finding her groove on the mat, he said.

"She's wrestling really tough," he said. "It's her first year wrestling, but she's so strong physically and really catching on to some moves at the right time."

McLain went 4-2 with four pins. His two losses came at the hands of Timberlake's James Billingsley, who finished third at the Rollie Lane Invitational earlier this year.

"That's the only guy he's been losing to, so he's been doing good," Holbrook said.

Colm notched a 2-2 record with two pins to place at a tournament for the fifth time this season.

Hayden Sorbel (113), Keith Poirier (126) and Kailee Davis (girls 106) all grabbed fifth in their weight classes.

Sorbel finished 4-2, winning two bouts by pin and one by majority decision. Holbrook said Sorbel carried the momentum from his first-place finish at the Ted Kato Memorial Tournament into the Rumble.

"He's on the uphill incline at the right time, so that's good," he said. "He had some tough matches, but overcame a few guys that beat him earlier in the year."

Poirier posted a 3-2 mark. All his victories came by pin. Davis lost both her matches to take fifth.

Aidan Troumbley secured two wins at 132 pounds and Holbrook was pleased with the way Caeden McLaimtaig wrestled.

"I think he's going to go to state no problem," he said.

Priest River hosts the War of the Waters dual with Timberlake at 5 p.m. Wednesday. The Spartans will also honor their two seniors — Bradley Bennett and Poirier.

On Thursday, the team will jump on the bus and head south to compete in the 33rd annual Weiser Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The tourney will give the Spartans a nice taste of the competition they will encounter at state in about three weeks.

"It will be a good experience," Holbrook said. "There are nine teams in our classification that are going to be at that tournament that we never see."
