Roy Ernest 'Ernie' Johnson, 79

| February 25, 2022 1:00 AM

Ernie Johnson passed away on January 4, 2022.

He was born in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, on June 10, 1942, to Carol (Stewart) and Roy John Rell Johnson. His family moved to Spokane where Ernie trained as a mason.

He married his first wife, Sharon Vannest and had two children Kevin and Kelly. He later married Judy Miller and had a son, Michael.

Ernie’s love of the outdoors brought him to the Sandpoint area, where he finally settled. He would hike for days in the mountains, and when he was too old to hike he bought a four-wheeler.

Ernie loved hunting, collected firearms, and was an expert gun smith. Other hobbies included brewing his own beer, wildlife photography and gardening.

Ernie worked as a mason all his life, and was known to take the occasional day off to go fishing.

He is preceded in death by his parents; by his siblings Gary, Danny, Eddie, Doug, Lynn Worthington and Wendy Perkins; and by his son Kevin. He is survived by his son, Mike; and daughter, Kelly; by his brother, Guy; his sister, Barbara Palmer; and by his grandchildren of whom he was very proud. He will also be missed by his many friends who enjoyed his unique perspective.

It was Ernie's wish that there be no funeral.
