Youth programs about at The Library

Clear blue skies and a bright and shining sun greet us in the morning accompanied by that familiar song of our local chickadees heralding the coming of spring.

As anyone who’s actually gone outside this week knows, nature is just trying to trick us. It’s way too cold outside to do anything other than frantically run to your car while trying not to power-slide across sun-slicked snow that’s harder than concrete.

However, it’s nice and warm inside the library, where we just so happen to be hosting a ton of programs and events for kids!

The Sandpoint Library is hosting Storytime events on Mondays and Wednesdays at 10 a.m., and Thursdays at 3 p.m. Storytime events are great for promoting childhood literacy, which helps grow mental and emotional development from an early age. Listening to other people read stories helps your children understand the meaning of words, both written and spoken, but also builds a capacity for empathy as they listen to someone else tell the story.

Beginning in March, the Sandpoint library will also be hosting the return of Crafternoon on the first and third Tuesday of every month at 3 p.m.

The age range and crafts will vary from projects for the tiniest of hands to the unbound creativity of local teens, so keep an eye out on ebonnerlibrary.org as well as this weekly article for the latest on what to expect from Crafternoon. Recently, we created cardboard automata, and next week we'll be making origami bookmarks. Why use a plain printed bookmark or a crumpled up receipt when you can have your very own pig or duck that’s uniquely you?

These will be the first of many events geared toward kids and teens over the coming months. If you’re ever curious about what might be happening at the library, you can always check our events calendar at ebonnerlibrary.org, or stop in and ask a friendly staff member about upcoming events.
