Schweitzer is loading up! The storm cycles just keep rolling in (just in case you hadn’t noticed while shoveling your driveway). In fact, the groomers are being challenged just to keep up. But they have been doing a great job.

Race season hits full swing — U16 and older racers will congregate at Crystal Mountain in Washington this weekend for the opening event of the Northwest Cup. This weekend features two slalom races.

Meanwhile, the Schweitzer Alpine Racing School (SARS) will be hosting the Emerald Empire Youth Ski League (ages 11 and under) on Loop Hole on Saturday and Sunday for giant slalom competition. Come watch the future of ski racing on the mountain!

Independence Junior Race Series — Competition kicks off this Friday. Racers report to registration in the Lakeside Lodge at 5 p.m. to meet your coaches. There will be no same-day registration.

World Cup — Mikaela Shiffrin missed the races at Lienz, Austria, last week after testing positive for COVID-19. Paula Moltzan placed 20th in slalom and 22nd in giant slalom.

The women then moved to Zagreb, Croatia, for two slalom races. Shiffrin, who was cleared to compete Monday, took second in the first event Tuesday, followed by Moltzan in 11th. The second event was rescheduled due to weather.

Potpourri — We’ll report results from the Northwest Cup races at Crystal Mountain and the Youth Ski League here at Schweitzer next week.
