Snow makes a mess of the prep sports schedule
The winter storm that rolled into the area Wednesday made a mess of the roads — and wreaked havoc on the local prep sports schedule.
So far, the weather has caused eight local high school varsity events to be postponed since Wednesday. Six local basketball games scheduled for Friday night were postponed as a result of poor road conditions and Lake Pend Oreille School District and West Bonner County School District both canceling school.
The Sandpoint girls and boys basketball teams were slated to host a doubleheader with rival Lakeland on Friday night at Les Rogers Court to open 4A Inland Empire League play, but now those games will be contested on another night that is yet to be determined.
However, there are still a few events left on the schedule this week that have yet to be impacted by postponements. The Sandpoint wrestling team was still able to travel to Spokane on Friday to take part in the Pacific Northwest Classic at University High. They wrap up competition at the event Saturday.
The Sandpoint boys basketball team is also still scheduled to travel to Kellogg at 3 p.m. Saturday.
Below is a list of all the events that have been postponed this week ... so far. Administrators are working to reschedule all of them, but makeup dates have yet to be announced.
