Sylvia Fisher

With broken hearts we announce that our beloved Sylvia passed away into the loving arms of her savior on Jan. 15, 2022. She was a loving wife, mother, nana, sister, daughter, and friend.

Heaven got a sassy, classy, generous spitfire of a lady who will be sorely missed. Sylvia didn’t know a stranger: everyone was “familia.” Sylvia was a phenomenal cook and you couldn’t possibly invite more people than she could accommodate. Her kind spirit has touched countless lives.

She was born in Modesto, California, on Jan. 5, 1964, the youngest of 11 children. As the baby of the family, she enjoyed tagging along with her siblings on their many adventures and learning the love of cooking alongside her mom. Some of her earliest memories involve harvesting whatever crop was in season with her family. She started so young, that often the produce bin was her play pen! As she got older, she began her career in hospitality as a waitress at the Miner’s Resort in Groveland, California.

She moved to Sandpoint, Idaho, in 1992 with her first husband and two young daughters, Tristen and Tiffany. They settled on 20 acres and established a small hobby farm. Sylvia continued her career in hospitality managing Connie’s, the hotel, and later waitressing again at DiLuna’s. It was at DiLuna’s that Sylvia and Barry Fisher first met — he left his number and what he thought was a big tip on the back of a receipt — and the rest is history. They were married on Nov. 12, 2005, and Sylvia was now a mom to five kids, a mother-in-law, and a soon-to-be grandma. She began devoting her time, energy, and love into being a wonderful homemaker, wife, mother, and nana. Throughout the preceding years, she welcomed three more sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law, and 11 grandchildren.

Sylvia was a gifted gardener, took great care of her yard, and made everything beautiful. She was passionate about decorating and collecting antiques. She would often take her kids and grandkids shopping and out to eat. She enjoyed going on walks, exercising, and going out for lunch with friends. She loved to go boating, paddle boarding, and kayaking. Her favorite summer activity was having conversations with her friends and family around the fire. She loved entertaining and was always ready for guests.

She is survived by her husband, Barry; her daughter, Tiffany (Cody); her daughter, Tristen (Chris); her stepdaughters, Jennie (Kurt) and Sara (Jamey); her stepson, Ben (Samantha); and her grandkids, Claire, Kendall, Kasey, Ivy, Lila, Charlotte, Violet, Elliott, Henry, Dawson, and Owen; and her precious little birddog, Howie. She is also survived by numerous siblings, nieces and nephews.

All who knew and loved Sylvia are welcome to join us at a celebration of life service which will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22, at North Summit Church, 201 N. Division Ave., Sandpoint. A potluck will follow the service at the same location. Interment will be a private family affair.
