| July 6, 2022 1:00 AM

Peter “Pete” William Goubeaud, 75, died on April 11, 2022, in Orlando, Fla.

He was born on May 1, 1946, in Ayer, Mass., to John Raywood Goubeaud II and Marion Ritterbusch Goubeaud. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving in the Vietnam War.

He established Hallelujah Pottery first in Lake Mary, Fla., and taught pottery at the prestigious Loch Haven Art Center in Winter Park, Fla. He then relocated the family and Hallelujah Pottery to Sewanee, where he built both the family’s new home and the studio.

He played banjo in the clawhammer style, and volunteered at Virginia nursing homes, where he played for the residents, who also enjoyed his devoted K-9 service dog, Otto.

In 2000, he and his wife, Joy, moved to North Idaho to enjoy the glacier-made lakes, the northern Rocky Mountain range, and where they took up snowmobiling and boating.

For the last 12 years, they were on the road in their motor home, enjoying visiting family and friends across the country, in Frankfurt, Germany and in the French Alps village of Vars.

All who knew him remember him as a creative, gentle spirit who trusted God and had a welcoming attitude toward all.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Edward Goubeaud; and son, Gabriel Goubeaud.

He is survived by his wife, Joy Goubeaud; children Danielle Goubeaud (Mike) Guyear, Luke (Adrienne) Goubeaud, Joshua Peter Goubeaud, and Ben Goubeaud; siblings John Raywood (Joyce) Goubeaud III,  MaryJane (Joe) Adams, and BettyAnn (Neal) Welland; four grandchildren, five nieces, and three nephews. Donations in his name may be made to Tunnel to Towers (for families of Fallen First Responders), or to Wounded Warriors.
