Montgomery Street improved — 1922

Last week a force of men under Marshal Binkley were engaged in hauling dirt from the top of the hill on Main Street to Montgomery Street, between Wisconsin and Main, paralleling the Great Northern tracks. After the filling was finished, they dampened it all down and it is now open for use.

90 Years Ago — 1932

Rain dampens spirits

With a sudden drop in temperature accompanying a series of hard showers of rain, the celebration spirit was somewhat dampened in Priest River Sunday. However, an occasional burst of burst of bright sunlight on Monday warmed up the several thousand celebrants, who enjoyed the various events of the day. By far, the greatest single attraction of the three days was the merry-go-round, the novelty of which held a constant crowd of spectators from late Saturday morning to late Monday evening. Not many concessions of this type find their way into this section.

Temper, temper!

A certain party in Priest River became disgruntled with his false teeth. It is said that he fired his teeth into the open spaces. When the time arrived for the next meal, he really needed the teeth. For the past several days, he has been busy cutting a plot of grass in hopes of recovering them

Suit filed to condemn

The federal government filed suit in United States District Court Friday to condemn 38 acres of land in Bonner County for the Army Engineers’ Albeni Falls Dam. The 10 tracts range in size from one-third of an acre to 30 acres.

Colleen Cook, Miss Priest River, is a candidate in the “Queen of the Spokane Indians” contest.

A pony is the prize

Buying an advance ticket to the Priest River Horse Jamboree, to be held during the Loggers Celebration on July 15, will give the holder a chance to win a pony. Tickets are 50 cents each or three for $1.

Buttons go on sale

Nine area ladies and their sponsors began putting Huckleberry Festival buttons into circulation Friday as the Huckleberry Queen contest began.

Suspect loses cops

Police chased a suspected felon in the woods near the state line for nearly two hours Friday evening before calling off the search. Daniel R. Rodrigues has a no-bond governor’s warrant out for his arrest.

Governor cuts red tape

Idaho Gov. Dirk Kempthorne was in Priest Lake June 21 to cut the red tape for the opening of the expanded Priest Lake Golf course.
