Seven-run spurt damages Ni Lakers 19U

WHITEFISH — The NI Lakers 19U legion baseball team is currently on a three-day trip in Whitefish, Montana.

The Lakers dropped their first game of the road trip on Thursday to the Libby Loggers 18U 10-9.

On Friday, the Lakers faced off against the Glacier Twins of Glacier, Montana.

Following a seven-run spurt in the bottom of the third inning, the Twins took a 12-4 advantage over the NI Lakers 19U.

The Lakers added one more run in the top of the fifth before ultimately losing the game 12-5.

The NI Lakers 19U began the game with a scoreless first inning. The Glacier Twins responded by bringing home three runners to take 3-0 lead.

Kellen Kroger hit an RBI single down the second baseline to score both Mason Peters and Mikey Glass to give the Twins a 2-0 advantage.

Jake McIntyre scored the third run following a walk.

The Twins added two more runs during the bottom of the second inning to jump ahead 5-0.

The Lakers stepped on the gas during the top of the third inning, bringing home four runs to cut the Twins’ lead to one.

Zeke Roop scored the first run of the game for the Lakers following a two-run RBI double into center field.

The bomb scored both Kody MacDonald and Finn Mellander.

Following a Mick Koch ground out, Alex Leverich hit an RBI single down the second base line with two outs to bring Roop home to make the score 5-3.

Ethan Butler finished the spurt after a RBI double into center field that scored Leverich.

Cameron Garcia came in relief of Koch during the third inning, giving up an additional seven runs.

AC Chilson was the first batter Garcia faced, following a 2-1 count, Chilson notched an RBI single down the third base line to score McIntyre to give the Twins a 6-4 advantage.

During the next at bat, Andrachick hit an RBI double into left field to put the twins up 7-4.

Glass followed this up with another RBI double, this time to center field, scoring two runs to put the Twins up 9-4.

Josiah Ruther hit a deep sac fly into left field for the Twins’ 10 run of the ball game that scored Peters, putting them ahead 10-4.

The eleventh run was scored following a Hayden Meehan single to center field that scored Glass.

Meehan scored a couple of plays later on a passed ball to put the Glacier Twins ahead 12-4 in the bottom of the third inning.

Following the Meehan score, Mike Riley came into pitch for the NI Lakers 19U.

Garcia threw 25 pitches during the inning, giving up five runs on four hits.

Before Garcia, Koch pitched just two innings, giving up seven runs on six hits, striking out two.

The Twins started the game with Kroger on the hill. He pitched two innings and two-thirds innings where he gave up four runs on seven hits striking out two.

The NI Lakers 19U drops to 9-9 overall and+ will next face off against the Spokane Cannons today at 10:45 a.m. in Whitefish.
