Louis Oliver Meigs

| July 13, 2022 1:00 AM

Louis Oliver Meigs (Dec. 11, 1951-July 3, 2022) passed away peacefully and unexpectedly in his home in Katy, Texas, on Sunday, July 3.

He was born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, to Madeline and Robert Meigs, raised in Omaha, attended Westside High School and graduated from the University of Idaho with a degree in civil engineering. He went on to live and work in Sandpoint, Idaho, as co-owner (with his brother Doug Meigs) of Welch Engineering Co. for 40-plus years. He married Jumpee in 1996 and they moved to Katy, Texas, in 2021 to enjoy their kids, their grandkids and their pet cat named Bleu.

He was survived by his devoted wife, Jumpee; his children, Senrith, Vich Chka and Mardy; five grandchildren; his brother, Douglas Meigs (Joni), sister-in-law, Linda Meigs; and sister, Leslie Markow (Don); and his many nieces and nephews.

Lou was known for living life to the fullest, always learning new things about his many interests: World War II history, planes, vintage cars, cooking, music, coffee and so much more. His favorite pastimes were long conversations with those he cared about. Trading stories, opinions, memories and maybe a good Scotch. As a dear friend of his said: "Lou was one-of-a-kind — one of the smartest, funniest, kindest, most thoughtful and humble guys I've ever known."

Lou spent every day being happy and thankful for his blessed life full of family and friends. His optimism was infectious, his humor defined him and he inspired all he touched to reach higher and be better. As one of his grandkids said, "He was the best man I have ever known. He taught me about life, about being supportive and about being kind." He was and will always be our Happy Buddha. Memories can be left at
