PRLHS grads receive award

Dylan Amundson and Melissa Booth, 2002 graduates of Priest River Lamanna High School, have each received a U. S. Army Reserve National Scholar/Athlete Award. Each year the Army Reserve sponsors the program to recognize and honor top female and male high school scholars and athletes across the nation, the announcement said.

The newest candidate for Bonner County District 2 commissioner needs no introduction, at least not to Oldtown residents who call him mayor. Brian Orr has filed to run.

Alternatives presented

Several alternatives designed to halt the construction of a proposed hydro project at Priest Lake were discussed at a special meeting held at the EMT building. The group, composed of concerned property owners, has until July 12 to file a formal protest against water rights being issued to Homestake Construction and Investment, a firm that proposes to construct numerous small hydro projects on streams feeding Priest Lake

It is homecoming week for countless former citizens as Priest River makes final preparations for the annual Loggers Celebration, now in its 25th year.

Child vandals break windows

About 45 windows were broken in the elementary school Sunday evening by six children about 12 years of age and under. The vandalism was reported to the police by persons in the neighborhood who heard the breaking glass.

New pastor arrives

Rev. and Mrs. William M. Edwards and daughter Susan Ann arrived from Wallingford, Vt. Rev. Edwards is the new pastor of the Congregational Church. The family will live in the parsonage.

80 Years Ago — 1942

Pay at Burgan’s Store - or else

At a recent meeting of the Priest River trustees, a new system of collecting the water rent was devised. Either a person pays his rent at Burgan’s Store by the 10th of each month, or his water will be turned off. This applies to everyone.

90 Years Ago — 1932

Businessmen can’t play ball

A game of playground baseball between proprietors and employees of the various business houses resulted in plenty of scores but not much baseball. Teams were selected from the two sides of Main Street, one team from the west side and the other team drawing its players from the east side. The final score stood 24 to 16 in favor of the westside players.

100 Years Ago — 1922

Pulling teeth brings relief

A letter from John Scribner, former owner of Mirror Lake Farms, states he is recovering from a hard case of rheumatism. The attending physician had him get all his teeth pulled, and now he says he can't chew the rag with his wife so well.
