GEESE LEAD RANCHER TO GOLD
When Dan Fiedler, pioneer settler north of Albany Falls, found a gold nugget in the crop of a goose he killed, he thought it was a piece of lost jewelry, but when he later found gold pieces in eight geese and five ducks, he decided it would be well to track their wanderings. Out the yard, along the fence and up the hill they waddled, with Dan trailing. They led him to a nest-egg in the form of a ledge of lead and silver ore, four inches below the surface, near the top of the hill. Nearby is a quartz ledge from which it is believed the fowls picked up the gold. It is believed the ledges run together and that at greater depths, gold will be found.
