Fire district announces annual pancake breakfast
Looking for a great breakfast and a chance to help out a great cause? If so, head on over to the Sam Owen Fire District’s annual pancake breakfast on July 23.
It's a chance to have the volunteer firefighters cook you a tasty breakfast of pancakes, eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy —all for only $5. Breakfast will be served from 7:30-11 a.m.
The breakfast is held at Sam Owen Fire Station No. 1, located at the junction of Peninsula Road and Highway 200 in Hope. Which, organizers said gives the community not only a chance to enjoy a great breakfast but a chance to get to know their local firefighters.
In addition to the breakfast, tours of the station are offered as is the chance to climb into the trucks and pick up free handouts for the kids.
"Please join us," Eileen Klatt, SOFD acting public information officer, said. "We’re looking forward to seeing you all."
The breakfast is not only a major community event but also is the fire district's only fundraiser.
The monies raised are used for supplies for the fire house, including uniforms, communication devices, and important firefighting equipment, Klatt said.
"Over 60 volunteers, plus the firefighters and fire chief spend untold hours to collect donations, cook the meal and serve you a delicious breakfast," she added.
The Sam Owen Fire District is committed to providing the highest level of fire protection and emergency services to all its residents, businesses and visitors. The district's volunteer staff made up of local residents of various ages and backgrounds has been trained and equipped for both structure and wildland firefighting as well as rescue operations, fire district officials said.
Firefighters train three times a month to hone their skills in fire suppression and rescue operations. In addition, the volunteers have either completed or are completing the nationally recognized Essentials 1 training course for fire personnel. Many of the volunteers are qualified EMTs and others have completed training in first aid, life support, rescue and extrication, Klatt said.
"With fully equipped fire engines, water tenders, a rescue truck and a fireboat, the district is able to respond to any fire or emergency situation," she added. "The rescue vehicle has the latest in extrication, land and water rescue equipment. The four-wheel drive wildland vehicle can reach our most remote areas, and many of the volunteers have completed intensive training in wildland fire fighting."
