NI Lakers 16U earn one seed at district tournament
For the second straight season, the NI Lakers 16U legion baseball team secured the number one seed going into this weekend’s district tournament at Deer Park.
The NI Lakers, who are looking to defend their 2021 WA State District title, finished their regular season 15-1 leading the league in runs scored with 224 and runs allowed with 40.
The NI Lakers 16U’s lone loss this season came last Thursday vs. Northern Lakes Mountaineers.
The NI Lakers 16U’s bats were strong against the Mountaineers, but it wasn’t enough as the Lakers fell 10-6.
The Lakers scored three runs in the fourth inning off singles by Sage Medeiros and Mason Little along with a sacrifice groundout by Blake Atteberry.
The Mountaineers scored five runs in the fourth inning. The big inning for Northern Lakes came thanks to triples by Mason and Cooksey and a double by Allaway.
Little went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the NI Lakers in hits.
The NI Lakers bounced back over the weekend defeating Gonzaga Prep and Shadle Park in double-header play.
In the opener against Gonzaga Prep, Williams got the start and went four and a third innings, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out seven.
