NI Lakers 16U repeats as district champions
For the second year in a row, the NI Lakers 16U legion baseball team took home the WA State District championship.
During its road to becoming champions, the Lakers did what they've been doing all year, overwhelming opponents with hits and runs.
During its first two games of the tournament, the Lakers outscored Shadle Park and Chewelah 24-1.
In its championship game against the Northern Lakes Mountaineers, the Lakers continued to have their foot on the gas, winning the game 11-1.
The Lakers only needed five innings during their opening-round matchup against Chewelah to seal the victory.
Jorden Tyler, Parker Reichart, and Blake Atteberry combined for a no-hitter against Chewelah.
The bullpen also combined for 10 strikeouts and just three walks.
The Lakers notched 10 hits during the opener. Tyler led the bunch, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and four RBI.
In its semifinals matchup against Shadle Park, the Lakers surged for seven runs during the final four innings.
Extra base hits proved to be huge for the Lakers against Shadle Park, with Jake Hansen, Sanroman, and Dallen Williams all coming away with doubles. Tyler added a triple. Tyler once again led at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI. During the first two games, Tyler went 5-for-6 with two doubles, a triple and five RBI.
In the championship game, the Lakers once again only needed five innings, taking care of the Northern Lakes Mountaineers 11-1.
The first three innings started slowly, with the Lakers not returning any runners home. They'd answer with an 11-run spurt in the fourth and fifth innings to seal the victory.
Once again, the bats were hot for the Lakers, notching 11 hits, bringing their combined hit total to 30 throughout the tournament.
Tyler finished 2-for-3 against the Mountaineers, finishing the weekend 7-for-8 at the plate.
Sanroman finished 2-for-2 with a double and four RBI.
Williams, who finished 2-for-3 at the dish with three RBI, also pitched a complete game on the mound.
He finished giving up just one run on five hits, fanning eight.
