Facts support climate change reality
In his letter of Nov. 25, 2018, to the Bee, Monte Heil argued, “At its best climate change is nothing more than mere speculation.” In his most recent letter (July 28, 22), he states, “I do not deny climate change …” That's progress. However, he does deny that the situation has reached crisis proportions. (Crisis – “a crucial stage or turning point in the course of something.”) The internet article “Climate Change Impacts - NOAA” makes it abundantly clear we have now reached such an ominous inflection point with regard to anthropogenic warming.
Mr. Heil demands the names of climate scientists who make up the consensus on climate change. All he has to do is survey the hundreds of weekly new research reports listed at skepticalscience.com. Ninety-nine plus percent of the authors will be members of that consensus. (Search “Greater than 99% consensus on human caused climate change in the peer-reviewed scientific literature.”)
Mr, Heil (May 24, 2022) only (and deceptively) described John Cook as a “cartoonist.” This despite the fact that he knows Mr. Cook is a credentialed physicist and operator of an internationally acclaimed climate science website. His attempt to falsely discredit my citations from this website is exemplary of his lack of objectivity.
Unfortunately Mr. Heil has not made any progress in his understanding of time dilation and length contraction, referring to them as “junk science.” These counter-intuitive phenomena are observed consequences of Einstein's theory of special relativity. None of the theory's predictions have ever been shown to disagree with properly controlled experimental tests.
