Sherrill and team Idaho competes at Fargo wrestling tourney

Sandpoint High School senior Shane Sherrill and the rest of team Idaho’s national wrestling team are competing in Fargo, North Dakota at the 2022 US Marine Corps 16U & Junior Nationals.

The freestyle part of the tournament took place on July 16.

Sherrill competed in the 152-pound weight class. The brackets were large, with Sherrill going against 128 other 152-pounders.

Sherrill received a first round bye and faced off against D. Distefano from New Jersey.

The New Jersey native defeated Oklahoma's C. Morales in the opening round of the tournament 10-0.

Sherrill fell to Distefano by the same score, 10-0, in the round of 64.

After reaching the consolation side of the bracket, Sherrill faced off against N. Mrowski from Illinois.

The two grapplers proved to be great competition with one another, finishing regulation tied at 10 points.

Following overtime, Sherrill captured the victory to keep his hopes of placing alive.

In the round of 32, Sherrill went up against Oklahoma's K. Roop.

The Oklahoma grappler put an end to Sherrill’s run, defeating him 9-2.

Sherrill finished the tournament 1-2 overall and will be competing again today during the Greco Roman 16U part of the tournament.

Team Idaho finished Fargo's freestyle tournament in 22 place with 16 team points.

The team brought home some hardware, with one fifth place finisher and one sixth place finisher.

Hudson Rogers notched a sixth-place finish at 170-pounds.

Rogers came out of the gate hot, winning his first three matches.

His first loss came against Oregon’s L. Bryne 6-4.

Rogers went on another win streak, winning four matches in a row before he lost his last two for a sixth place finish.

Kolter Burton finished fifth at 106-pounds.

He won his fifth and sixth place match via a tech fall against Dedrick Navarro, also from Idaho.

Pennaslyvania finished on top of the team leaderboard with 223 total team points.

They finished the tournament with 16 placers including one gold medalist and three silver medalists.
