Leroy Kenneth Syth, 81

| June 8, 2022 1:00 AM

On May 9, 2022, Leroy Kenneth Syth (brother, father, grandpa, and great-grandpa) caught the 8 o’clock train bound for Heaven to be reunited with his beautiful wife Sandy.

Leroy was born on April 27, 1941, in Sidney, Montana. He was the oldest of five children born to Kenneth and Marie Syth. Soon after, the family moved to Clark Fork, Idaho, where Leroy grew up and attended school.

He met the love of his life, Sandra Pellens, in 1963. They married a year later on March 21, 1964, in Sandpoint, Idaho. Shortly after, they welcomed their first daughter, Paula Jean; followed by their son, Wade Alan, in 1967; and second daughter, Jackie Lee, in 1971.

Leroy worked a few different jobs (he worked for some local farmers, and at the Noxon Dam) before starting his 39-year career for the railroad. He retired in 2002 from Burlington Northern Santa Fe.

Leroy enjoyed going to the thrift stores looking for that antique treasure that might be worth something someday. He collected many different things: Hot Wheels, hats, Beanie Babies, shot glasses, etc. He always said, “you can never have too many hats or Hot Wheels.”

Leroy also spent many mornings at Dub’s having coffee with former railroad coworkers. His greatest joy, however, was spending time with family, walks around town, and going on long drives with his wife.

Leroy is survived by three children, Paula Campbell, Wade Syth, and Jackie (Josh) Forell, all of Sandpoint; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Bonnie (Eston) Harbison; and brothers, Gary (Margaret) Syth, and Cecil (Marlene) Syth. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandy; parents; and sister, Evon Marie.

Celebration of life will be held from 12-3 p.m. on June 18, 2022, at the VFW Hall, 1325 Pine St., Sandpoint.

Family and friends are invited to sign the online guestbook, for Leroy, at coffeltfuneral.com.

Coffelt Funeral Service will be handling the final arrangements.
