ROMANCE LANGUAGES POPULAR AT SHS

Sandpoint High students continue to flock to French, Spanish and Latin classes, even though colleges have been easing their language requirements in recent years. Ron Anderson, SHS instructor in Spanish and French, points out that fewer than half of his language students plan to go on to college at all. “A very strong motivating force with many of the kids is that they are studying the language because they have plans to travel in Europe,” he said, adding that others enjoy the language study because it is very much like studying the people themselves. “They acquire some cultural insights about other areas of the world,” he said.

Pend d’Oreille Review

March 6, 1922 – TWO FIRES TUESDAY

The fire department was called out twice Tuesday, responding at 2:10 a.m. to an alarm from the residence at 428 Lake, occupied by Mr. and Mrs. James Dougherty, where a small fire in the living room wall below the chimney did damage estimated at less than $5; and responding to a call to the A.H. Fleetwood residence at Pine and Washington at 11:10 a.m., where a fire caused by an overheated stovepipe burned a hole in the roof over the kitchen, with damage estimated at about $20. On the way out, one of the horses fell and broke the tongue of the hose-sleigh but the department was able to reach the scene in time to prevent the spread of the flames.

LACLEDE HILL SURVEY COMPLETED

The survey of the Laclede hill road is completed. A good grade was secured with a maximum of 5 per cent. The new grade is 200 feet lower than the present road, but has two wonderful views equally as good as the one on the higher road. The road will come out at Thama on the west end, and will be one of the beauty spots of the northwest, the road so good and grades so light that it will be a pleasure to travel over it.
