March 8, 1972 – CENSUS INFORMATION

The average annual income of Bonner County families, as indicated by the 1970 census, was $7,579, more than $800 below the $8,381 average for the state. The report shows a county population of 15,569.

24 NAMED TO NIC DEANS LIST

Twenty four Bonner County students were named to the dean’s list for academic achievement at North Idaho College: Sandpoint - James L. Morton, Jacquita D. Darling, Janice M. Forest, Mark E. LaMoreaux, JoAnn Meeker, Roy M. Jacobson, Marsha D. Oliver, Sandra L. Langston, Margaret J. Ponack, William L. Powell, Ronald L. VanGundy, Stephen J. Vandenberg, Randy P. Kemp; Clark Fork - Joel P. White; Hope - D. Larae White, Sandra J. Butler; Samuels - Constance W. Westfall; Colburn - Larry J. Timblin; Priest River - Susan M. Russell, Timothy G. Carpenter, Susan K. Peterson; Athol - Marilyn G. Davis. All those named are full-time students who earned first semester grade point averages of 3.0 or higher.

DO & DINE CLUB

A reorganizational meeting of the Sandpoint Do and Dine 4-H Club was held Monday in the Community hall, with election of officers for the next year. Officers are as follows: Barbara Greenleaf, president; Loretta Austin, vice president; Francie Rogers, secretary; Sue Hatch, treasurer, and Kristie Weisz, reporter.

March 8, 1922 – SANATORIUM IS ASSURED

As a result of the decision of the state tuberculosis commission at a meeting here, Sandpoint will have its long hoped for sanatorium. The commission voted to proceed at once with plans for the construction of the two sanatoriums voted by the state legislature, one at Payette and the other at Sunnyside, eight miles east of Sandpoint. Both buildings will be built and equipped from the original fund which will be divided equally between the two buildings.

VETERAN TO RECEIVE $100 A MONTH

Disabled because of service in the world war, William Frank Polley of Sandpoint has been awarded government compensation of $100 a month by the United States Veteran’s bureau at Seattle. He will receive $79.68 back compensation. Tuberculosis among former service men is gaining steadily despite the fact that the war ended more than three years ago. Fifty veterans have been hospitalized in Washington, Oregon and Idaho since January 1.

Nearly all the sick are back at their usual activities.

Most people found Kootenai a dull place this last week with only one social event taking place.

The Kootenai planer set a record by operating two weeks without a layoff and is still going strong.

County Assessor Prichard made a trip to Clarksfork last Wednesday. He states that there is a grave concern in Clarksfork over the danger of the county bridge going out with the threatened high water.
