Man dies in Spirit Lake collision

A driver in a Thursday afternoon collision on Highway 41 north of Spirit Lake has died of his injuries.

Idaho State Police said the driver of an Acura sedan was northbound on Highway 41 at about 5:23 p.m. when he went left of center, hitting a Dodge Dakota pickup head-on near milepost 22.

The 39-year-old driver of the Acura succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The driver of the Acura was not wearing his seat belt.

The female driver of the Dodge Dakota was flown via medical helicopter to Sacred Heart in Spokane for her injuries. The juvenile in the pickup was transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

Next of kin has been notified.

Traffic was completely blocked on the highway for more than two hours.

The incident remains under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
