May 8, 1972 – COMPLETES TRAINING

Navy Seaman Recruit Donald G. Lunde, son of Mrs. Earl R. Davis, Jr., Rt. 1, Sandpoint, graduated from recruit training at the Naval Training Center at San Diego. A 1970 SHS graduate, he is scheduled to report to Radioman Class “A” School, San Diego.

BLOOD DONORS SCORE RECORD

Bonner County blood donors set an all-time record Friday, contributing 88 pints of blood during the Spokane Bloodmobile’s visit at Sandpoint Community hall. County Chairman James Bixler said, “We want to thank all those who participated.” He added there were some delays “due to damaged tables that caused us trouble. Several tables folded up with donors on them and that held up the donor procedure considerably.”

TALCOTTS OPENING A & W ON MAY 11

Mr. and Mrs. Bob Talcott have purchased the A & W Drive-In and service station from Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Marks and will open the remodeled and renovated business May 11. They installed a new fountain and telephone ordering devices and have employed nine girls for work inside the diner and to wait on cars.

LIBRARY GETS LOIS BOWDEN PAGE GIFT

Sandpoint Public Library has received 40 volumes valued at $250 through a book fund honoring Lois Bowden Page, former area schoolteacher and library trustee for 27 years. The gift was presented to the library Friday by Dr. John C. Page of Sandpoint on behalf of his wife, who has been ill for some time.

Pend d’Oreille Review

May 8, 1922 – HIGH SCHOOL ANNUAL ISSUED

The Review will Monday deliver to the senior class 250 copies of the senior annual, “Monticola,” which is the botanical name of the white pine, emblematic of this area. The edition is a 90-page booklet, replete with the school activities of the class of ’22 from the time its members entered high school to graduation. The annual is dedicated to Miss Lois Bowden (later Mrs. John C. Page), English teacher, whose full page portrait marks the opening pages of the book.

CLUB HOLDS RECEPTION

The Civic club held its annual reception at the Guild hall on Monday. The decorations consisted of daffodils and dogtooth violets. The program included a vocal solo by Miss Fern Cranston, several piano selections by Mrs. Paul Marks and a short program by the high school orchestra under the direction of C.E. Gaylord.

President H.F. Schedler of the County Seed Potato Growers’ association and County Agent P.T. Fortner were in Priest River Tuesday to inspect the first shipment of certified seed potatoes ever shipped out of there. The carload, all Netted Gems consigned to a Lewiston company, left Priest River Wednesday.
