VANDALISM IRKS KIWANIS MEMBERS

Sandpoint Kiwanis Club is repairing the winter’s vandalism at Camp Stidwell and improving the private campground for use by Boy and Girl Scouts. Vandals used heavy equipment to uproot the locked gate to get into the camp. Kiwanis members will seek prosecution of trespassers and vandals who can be identified.

NOW WE HAVE ‘TREE RUSTLERS’

Cattle rustlers have long plagued rural Bonner County and it appears that “tree rustlers” also are getting into the act. Gary L. Pietsch, whose property adjoins Sand Creek near the Airport Cutoff, discovered Sunday that someone had cut and removed about 24 trees from his premises. Neither Pietsch nor his neighbors saw or heard any evidence of the theft. The stolen trees ranged in diameter to about 14 inches and the stumps had been covered with slash in an effort to conceal the theft. A sheriff’s investigation continues.

May 10, 1922 – RADIO PLANT IN OPERATION

The new radio plant of the Boy Scouts was set up yesterday at the Chamber of Commerce rooms and furnished entertainment for those visiting the chamber last night. Concerts were heard from Los Gatos, Cal., Seattle, and Spokane, and listening in was also indulged in on telephone messages between Los Angeles and Catalina islands. When a megaphone arrives, it will be erected outside of the chamber so the public may hear all that is caught on the wires.

SEED POTATO SUPPLY NEARLY EXHAUSTED

Bonner County Seed Potato Growers association has this spring shipped 10 cars of seed potatoes. Its supply of Netted Gems is exhausted and there remain only two cars of Idaho Rurals from the 1921 crop. It is expected that last year's planting of 200 acres will be increased 25 per cent, while new members are expected to add 60 acres more to the 1922 crop.

GREAT NORTHERN KIDDIES GIVE SURPRISE

Miss Ethel Eddy, teacher at the G.N. school, was surprised by her pupils with a picnic banquet at the schoolhouse. The scholars took supplies for the meal to school in the morning, hiding them behind stumps and other out of the way places. When school was let out for lunch, one of the girls feigned to sprain an ankle. Miss Eddy promptly went to her aid. In the 10 minutes in which she tried to help, the other scholars scurried around and had the spread all laid out by the time she returned to a chorus of “Surprise! Surprise!”
