KELLOGG — Kellogg held a 6-4 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning in a Class 3A district 1 loser-out game against Priest River.

The Wildcats would go on to score eight runs in the bottom half of the sixth to force the 10-run rule, ending the Spartans season.

Zoie Bernier got it started for Kellogg with a two-run RBI single into right field, scoring Charlie McDaniel and Alex Karst.

After a Kadyn Williams walk, Brielle Hei hit a 2-run RBI double into right field that scored Bernier and Williams.

Hei also hit a home run in the bottom of the third inning to give Kellogg a 2-1 lead.

McDaniel drove in the final two runs on a double into center field that scored both Olivia Sawyer and Kalyca Card.

The sixth inning was the only major mistake made by the Spartans. Lilly Freitas handled the game well on the mound throughout.

She finished the game giving up seven runs on 13 hits, striking out seven.

Priest River was also efficient at the dish, outhitting the Wildcats 10-9 for the game. The difference came in extra base hits.

Kellogg racked up four hits for extra bases, whereas the Spartans only notched one. Which was a double from Brodie Hansen into left field during the top of the first inning. She drove home Ona Rose for Priest River’s first run of the day.

Rose and Cheyenne Thompson notched the most hits for Priest River, both with two hits apiece.
