It is a hardship now to live, work here

| May 24, 2022 1:00 AM

Our family moved to Sandpoint in 1975, and I was a business owner here for over 28 years, so we have paid our share of taxes.

Starting March 20th 1997 our current home less than three years old was involved in a landslide. We were front page news on March 21, 1997, in theBonner County Daily Bee, and on Q6 News.

We were told by the Idaho Department of Lands and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to evacuate our home for our safety.

Property tax devaluation helped for a while, then properties sold without proper disclosures.

We should be paying taxes for our cost of purchasing property, and building home costs not escalated evaluations until property is sold. A property tax deferral is not the answer.

Now tax reduction is possibly being taken away because of inflated property values.

It is a hardship for many people in Bonner County to be able to move, work and live here. Our friends, kids and grandkids are experiencing that problem now.
