Johnson is the right choice for our community

| November 3, 2022 1:00 AM

Like so many of us, we drove across the Long Bridge and knew we’d found our forever home.

Our family moved here without any ties to the community; no friends, family, or jobs. We quickly made friends, grew businesses, and built our family.

Our communities were a conglomeration of different passions, beliefs and personalities, but we didn’t hold those differences against each other. We see each other at the store, sports, the beach, on the lake, share a chair lift, wait together at school drop off. Politics was rarely discussed. We were too busy just talking about life, new adventures, recent struggles and upcoming celebrations.

Recent divisiveness was not part of our fabric, but it is now sowed by a small, but loud, faction that seems to live in a different Sandpoint. It’s time to take notice of how some newcomers want to divide us, to create animosity and suspicion. They want to intimidate anyone who pushes against their politics and hope we leave, consigning over this beautiful land we love. We mustn’t let them.

We must vote for the candidates who have been there for our communities, our schools, our lands and our waters. Although Scott Herndon has been here nearly 20 years, he didn’t register to vote until 2016 when he first ran for senator. Since then, he’s been very active around the Legislature writing and finding supporters for his proposed personal legislation, none of which addresses the daily life of North Idahoans; health care, jobs, housing, supporting schools, property taxes, infrastructure and roads.
Please write in Steve Johnson for state senator. He is from here, he is of here, he will listen, and he will do what’s right for North Idaho.
