Bulldogs open girls basketball season
Spirits were high in the Bulldogs gym at Monday night's practice.
“I’m really excited about the season,” Sandpoint coach Will Love said. “We have seven kids returning from last year's state team”
And although they lose three starters, the Bulldogs have junior Aliyah Strock who was named newcomer of the year for the league.
Assistant coach Maddie Schoening is also back for her second year. Schoening, a Sandpoint High School graduate who went on to play for the Montana Griz, is working with both varsity and JV teams.
At the 2022 4A State Basketball Tournament the Bulldogs went out at 2-0. But Love feels confident about who they have returning to the court.
“We’ve had a really good summer,” Love said. "It’s been a great opening two weeks of practice.”
It will be a tough season having to battle against Moscow and Lakeland for a playoff spot. Only so many spots are given out and there are competitive teams in the Inland Empire League.
“I’m excited to see where we can go,” Love said. “They’ve been working hard, are very coachable, and I know that they want to get back to state.”
Tune in to watch the Bulldogs take on Lake City this evening at 7 p.m.
