Tax-Aide seeking volunteers

| October 15, 2022 1:00 AM

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is looking to expand its team of volunteers for the upcoming tax season.

Tax-Aide, heading into its 55th year, offers free tax preparation and assistance to anyone, especially those 50 and older, who can’t afford a tax preparation service. Volunteers make a difference in their communities by assisting many older, lower-income taxpayers, and their families, who might otherwise miss out on the tax credits and deductions they’ve earned.

Approximately 300 AARP Foundation Tax-Aide volunteers help more than 30,000 Idahoans file their federal and state tax returns each year. The program is offered at approximately 40 sites across the Gem State including senior centers, libraries and other convenient locations.

Since its inception, AARP Foundation Tax-Aide has served more than 68 million taxpayers. The program is seeking volunteer tax preparers, client facilitators, those who can provide technical and management assistance and interpreters. Every level of experience is welcome. You do not need to be a tax preparer to contribute to the program, however volunteer tax preparers do complete tax preparation training and IRS certification.

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide has grown since its inaugural team of just four volunteers in 1968. The program now involves 35,000 volunteers and serves over 2.5 million taxpayers annually at nearly 5,000 sites nationwide.

Taxpayers do not need to be a member of AARP or a retiree to use Tax-Aide. To learn about volunteer opportunities, visit aarpfoundation.org/taxaide or call 888-AARPNOW (888-227-7669).
