Selkirk-Pend Oreille Food Summit announced

| October 16, 2022 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT — The community is invited to take part in the one-day Selkirk-Pend Oreille Food Summit being hosted by University of Idaho Extension.

The event, which celebrates and supports the foods and farms throughout the greater Selkirk-Pend Oreille region, is focused on growing connections between farmers, ranchers and foragers and residents, restaurants, and retailers, organizers said. The summit is hosted by University of Idaho Extension and will take place at the Sandpoint Organic Agriculture Center, 10881 N. Boyer Road, on Nov. 4. It will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. followed by a networking social from 4-6 p.m.

Among the activities are five-minute "Ignite!" presentations highlighting work being done in the region, refreshments from Bluebird Bakery and a seasonal lunch catered by Pack River Store. The summit is also a chance to engage in conversations about opportunities to grow the local food system, experience an organic heirloom apple and apple cider tasting from the SOAC orchard, and take advantage of an abundance of opportunities for networking. Organizers said the summit has something for everyone — from farmers, ranchers, foragers, and gardeners to chefs, restauranteurs, foodies, and community members. In addition to a wide breadth of information, the summit offers a chance to forge new connections and ideas for supporting local farms and food in the Selkirk-Pend Oreille region, officials said.
