Sandpoint boys angle for 4th place finish
POST FALLS — The Sandpoint Bulldogs bounced back from from a tough loss to defeat Century 1-0 Friday at Real Life Fields.
After being upset the day before and getting knocked into the 4A State Tournament consolation bracket, the Bulldogs boys varsity soccer team was able to come away with a 1-0 win Friday morning over Century High School.
“Still a frustrating game,” Bulldog coach Tanner French said after the win. “It’s tough to come off of the defeat we had yesterday and come back and play in less than 18 hours.”
Mother Nature didn’t help players on either side of the field, as colder temperatures and relentless rain poured down on the Real Life Fields in Post Falls all day.
The lone goal of the game came from Bulldog sophomore Henry Barnes around the 18th minute, assisted by junior Eoin Eddy.
As the game wore on, both teams struggled to develop any sort of offense, as they played against each other and the elements.
Despite the win, French was not impressed with his team’s effort, saying that it just isn’t the same team that went undefeated during the regular season.
“Lacked creativity. Lacked enthusiasm. Just a lackluster performance all around.”
On Saturday at 9 a.m., the Sandpoint boys will take on a familiar foe, Canyon Ridge, for a chance at fourth place. The Bulldogs defeated Canyon Ridge 4-0 in the tournament’s opening round last year.
