| September 14, 2022 1:00 AM

James H. "Butch" Low Jr., 69, of Priest River, Idaho, passed away Sept. 4, 2022.

He died peacefully at the Schneidmiller Hospice House in Hayden, Idaho.

Butch was born on the military base Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, N.C., in 1952. He then moved with his family to Priest River shortly after. He married his wife, Cindy Troudt, on April 8, 1972, and they had their first son, Scott, on Sept. 12, 1972. They had their second son, Travis, on Aug. 15, 1982.

Butch worked numerous jobs in the Priest River area, from sawmills to the family garbage company. Eventually he and Cindy purchased the Priest River Laundromat, which he operated until his passing.

Just like his father, Jim Low, Butch was a huge supporter of Priest River Spartan athletics for many years. Then Butch and Cindy became the ultimate supporters and fans of their sons, from Little League sporting events to motorcycle racing and then through many years of snowmobile racing. Butch also enjoyed fishing, hunting and most of all socializing with friends and family. He was also known to many as a prankster, all the way until his death.

He was a kind and loving partner to his wife, Cindy, before and throughout all of her health complications. He was a family man first, and Butch remained loyal to his sons and their families to the end.

Butch was preceded in death by his wife, Cindy, in 2016. Butch leaves behind his eldest son, Scott, son Travis and daughter-in-law Rose, and four grandsons Trevor, Blair, Tucker and Lane.

A graveside service will be held at the Priest River Evergreen Cemetery at 11 a.m. this Saturday, Sept. 17. A social gathering will follow at Popeyes and the Wine Bar, located at Main and High Street in Priest River.

The family asks that any donations made in Butch’s honor go toward the Priest River Community Foundation.

Sherman-Campbell Funeral and Cremation Services in Newport, Wash., is in charge of arrangements. Family and friends are welcome to visit their website at www.shermancampbell.com.
