Custom officers made chase

A wild chase along the highway between Priest River and Laclede, that finally ended in a farmyard, netted U.S. Customs Patrol officers H. F. McFarland and H. E. Judd a shipment of alcohol and Canadian liquor. The officers noted a suspicious looking auto on the highway Tuesday and gave pursuit. Bus drivers needed

The Priest River Independent School District No. 13 is experiencing considerable trouble in hiring bus drivers. Plane meets deer on runway

Maybe deer warning whistles should be considered standard gear on airplanes landing at Priest Lake. A look at one accident on the sheriff’s log this week makes you wonder. Kenneth Elmer of Columbia City, Ore., who hit the deer just after landing on the Nordman air strip, estimated $53,000 damage to his 1955 Piper. Elmer’s plane had just touched down when a deer ran in front of him out of the woods. The impact collapsed the landing gear, throwing the plane forward onto its nose. An officer had to shoot the deer.
