BOSTON – Martin Tetachuk was awarded his fourth-degree black belt at the American Tang Soo Do National Tournament on Sunday, March 19 in Boston, Mass.

Black Bear Martial Arts continues to send athletes to compete on the national level. Tetachuk was awarded his masters belt at the opening ceremonies of the tournament; he was accompanied by his father, Master Darren Tetachuk, and Grandmaster Marco Dicipio.

"Every year at the tournament we see the same people from all over the country. I have met friends here in Boston that I keep in touch with on a regular basis," Martin Tetachuk said.

Martin, who is now 25 years old, started his martial arts journey at 12. Only three years after his first practice, Martin was awarded his first-degree black belt. Martin continued to excel rapidly in martial arts; he was the grand champion of sparring at the American Tang Soo Do National Tournament two years in a row (2017 and 2018).

“Martin is an exceptional martial artist and teacher. A huge congratulations to Martin for what he has accomplished,” Darren Tetachuk said.

Martin is the youth instructor and co-owner of Black Bear Martial Arts in Sandpoint. He believes that martial arts helps build confidence, develops an ability to achieve, and helps establish a personal standard of accountability.

"Martial arts has personified me. The physical and mental gain is unmatched. I do not think I would be in such a good situation today if it wasn't for martial arts," Martin Tetachuk said.
