Apr. 9, 1973 – BOARD SHELVES SHS PLAN
On the heels of a refusal by the State Department of Education to approve plans for an addition at Sandpoint High, the Bonner County School Board decided instead to build a 12-classroom structure at Farmin Elementary to house seventh graders from Sandpoint Junior High next fall. It was the Board’s consensus that new classrooms at Farmin would be needed in the future for youngsters from Lincoln Elementary, even if seventh graders are moved in the future to new space at SJHS or SSHS.

STORE, POST OFFICE CHANGE HANDS
Thirty-seven years of work for the U.S. Post Office came to an end March 31 when Mrs. Glen Stradley [nee Vernice Oliver], Colburn, turned the job over to Mrs. Mary Maberry. With the post office goes the store, which she ran alone until her husband retired five years ago from Oliver General Contracting. Now that retirement has come, the Stradleys have their home behind the store, and a camper. They plan to enjoy both. Mr. and Mrs. Marv Maberry, from Illinois, assumed operation of the store Saturday.

ROUND TOP SKI AREA TO BE DEVELOPED
Plans for development of the Round Top ski area [near Hope] are being made by the Round Top ski club. Officers are Karl Greef Jr. president; J.M. Brown Jr., vice president; James Breinich, treasurer; and Ward R. Tifft, secretary. It is proposed to improve the road completed last year to Round Top by the Auxer mine directors. Directors propose to clear two ski areas for use next winter and plan to build a cabin at the top for shelter. In January, the club purchased a skimobile which has been used to take parties to the ski area on week ends since. Study so far indicates the Round Top section offers excellent possibilities for development into one of the prime skiing areas of the Inland Empire with good skiing possible up to May 15 and perhaps to June 1 in some favorable years.
