Spartans defeated by Troy in five innings
PRIEST RIVER – Priest River was defeated by Troy, 20-2, on Monday, April 18 at Priest River Junior High School.
Troy took an early lead in the first inning when they put up eight runs on a rally led by Kylie Cole who hit a single that scored two. She finished the game with four hits (two triples), four runs scored, and four RBI’s, all of which were game-highs for the Trojans.
For the Spartans, Jaylein Zylstra played well on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. She was responsible for three out of the four Spartans’ RBIs; she had three singles in the contest. On the mound, she threw for two-and-one-thirds innings, giving up just three earned runs and striking out two batters.
Addison Kingery also added an RBI single to shallow left field in the bottom of fifth that scored Zylstra.
On the defensive side of things, the Spartans committed nine total errors, something they will look to limit going forward. However, Kae Brown and Kingery made some great catches in left field and at first base, respectively.
Priest River (3-5) will travel north for an in-conference doubleheader against Bonners Ferry on Friday, April 21.
