After loss to Timberlake, Sandpoint gets ready for conference play
TIMBERLAKE – The Bulldogs fell to Timberlake 13-3 in a non-conference matchup at Timberlake High School on Tuesday, April 18.
Sandpoint was never able to get started and, after two innings, Timberlake led 10-3. The Bulldogs’ offense was never quite able to get to Timberlake’s Casey Whaley in the latter half of the game.
Mayle Ducken, Peyton Cessna, Elizabeth Dysart, Ali Knowles, Kaylee McCown, and Baeley Sykes all contributed singles in the contest for the Bulldogs. For Timberlake, Acacia Pecor and Allilah Dykes led the way with two hits each.
Despite the loss, Sandpoint played great on defense against a high-powered Timberlake offense only committing one error, a season-low for the Bulldogs.
“Everyone was ready and executed today. Cadence Skibitsky had a great catch on the run in center field that saved several runs. Ashlyn Darling did well for us on the mound,” head coach Elizabeth Hawkins-Williams said. “It doesn’t show up in the stats, but we crushed the ball today. We had a lot of hard hit balls that went right to a fielder. We were flirting with the centerfield fence multiple times. We are only missing a couple elements to finish our games with wins.”
The largest drawback for Sandpoint was the 15 walks they gave up on Tuesday, something the team has been battling with all-season long.
“In order to put everything together in our next matchup, we need to limit free passes and come out with more energy,” Hawkins Williams said.
Sandpoint (0-12) will look to capture their first win of the season over Lakeland on Thursday, April 20 in a doubleheader at Lakeland High School.
