Area schools compete at 26th annual Priest River Invitational

PRIEST RIVER – After the final event was in the books, it was the Sandpoint girls and boys teams winning the 26th annual Priest River Track and Field Invitational on Saturday. A total of 14 schools attended, three of those being Sandpoint, Clark Fork, and of course, Priest River.

Sandpoint girls and boys both won the meet with scores of 128.5 and 109, respectively. Priest River boys placed second with a score of 89.5.

Sandpoint’s Nathan Roche continues to excel on the track; he won the 3200-meter with a time of 10:02.31, a new personal record for Roche. Priest River’s Brayden Lamanna also set a new personal record with a time of 10:33.60 to finish in third place.

Priest River’s Matyus McLain won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.69 and the discus with a throw of 147-7. McLain also won the shot put with a new personal record of 51-6, the top throw in 2A this year. Carter Korff took second for the Spartans in the long jump with a mark of 19-3 ½.

Sandpoint’s Will Jordan won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:14.10. Meanwhile on the field, brothers Klein and Slate Fragoso dominated the pole vault for the Bulldogs with vaults of 13-0 and 12-6 to finish first and second.

Clark Fork’s Wyatt Mintken placed third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.84. Nathan Shelton finished second for Clark Fork in the 300m hurdles with a new personal record of 44.23.

On the girls side, Sandpoint freshman Ani Vick won the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.99. Priest River’s Hadassah Davis finished in third place with a 14.22; Davis competed in four events on the day.

The Spartans’ Allyson Dickinson won the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.44; she also placed second in the 400-meter dash. Priest River’s 4x100 relay consisting of Maicie Archer, Haley Braae, Hadassah Davis, and Elisheva Davis placed first with an impressive time of 56.02.

On the field, Sandpoint’s Ivy Smith dominated the throwing events by winning both the discus and shot put with throws of 112-8 and 37-7.5, respectively.

Priest River’s Kylee Swoboda won the high jump with a new personal record, 4-10. Nearby, Sandpoint’s Devin McDaniel won the pole vault with a mark of 10-4. Clark Fork senior Savannah Weymouth was not far behind in second place with a vault of 9-0.

McKenna Kozeluh from Coeur d’Alene Charter won the 800, 1600 and 3200-meter runs and set new meet records in every single event.
