Apr. 23, 1973 – GOOD BREAKFAST HABITS
The Kootenai School 5th and 6th graders had an activity lasting several weeks when their teacher, Mrs. Wiley, saw a time to have her class learn the value of eating a good breakfast. The class was divided into teams and she put up a U.S. map with 4 roads leading into Heartland, U.S.A. From Maine came the Bangor Blues; from Florida, the Miami Yellow; from Washington, the Seattle Greens; and from California, the San Diego Reds. The Bangor Blues - Kim Bloom, Rosalind Hull, Brian Millin, Mark Murry, Susan Pritchett, and Carol Wiley – won the game. The children had to eat 4 out of 5 food groups – milk, citrus, cereal, toast, eggs or meat.

COUNCIL EXCLUDES OAK FROM L.I.D.
Opponents of Oak Street paving won a victory Monday when the Sandpoint City Council resolved unanimously to eliminate Oak between N. Ella and Division from Local Improvement District 25. A group of Oak St. residents has sought the street’s exclusion since the LID was proposed. The LID calls for new paving and curb to be constructed later this year on the following streets: Lake St. from First Ave. to Euclid and from Florence to Richland; Alder from Boyer to Main; Spruce from Division westward for 1,051 feet; Church from Ella to Division; Ella from Pine to Chestnut; S. Third from Lake to Pacific; Erie from Olive to Florence; Dearborn from a half block east of First to Fourth; Poplar from Boyer to Jefferson; Michigan from Florence to Ella; Birch from Merton to Elm and Elm from Merton to Birch.
