We are at a crossroads in North Idaho

| April 27, 2023 1:00 AM

We are at a crossroads as fascism is right here in North Idaho.

It is rearing its head in our politics. It has helped close the maternity ward at BGH. And now fascism is trying to get a seat on your library board and tell you what is and is not permissible to read.

It will try to gaslight you into thinking that if you aren't for giving up your rights, then you aren't for protecting kids. It wants to break the library up into age-appropriate sections (which it already is) and force parents to sign a permission slip for their kids to access those sections. (Fascism surprisingly thinks the library is a daycare). Do you think fascism is going to stop there? Why would fascism fight so hard to implement an easily by-passable system? I think fascism has other ideas it isn't being upfront about.

Restrictions are a form of banning that have been struck down numerous times in court. Fascism already has lists of books it doesn't like. Fascism is trying to ban books it hasn't even read, because it knows of a few parts it doesn't like, or it just knows that the subject matter lifts marginalized voices. Fascism hates that. Fascism also doesn't like to do its own work, it would rather foist the responsibility on the good people working at the library, then complain when, in its eyes, they get it wrong.

You can fight back against fascism though. Vote to re-elect Susan Shea to the EBC library board. She stands for your First Amendment right to read and choose what your family reads.
