A new scam is making the rounds in Bonner County, according to the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office.
“We have received several reports of Bonner County residents receiving phone calls from a person posing as a local law enforcement official,” Bonner County Sheriff Daryl Wheeler said Saturday in a release.
The caller is allegedly requesting personal information from anyone who answers or requests that the individual return the call and leave that personal information on a “confidential” sheriff voicemail system.
“This is not the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office or any other local police department requesting your personal information,” Wheeler said. “It is a scam.”
The sheriff advised residents to never release personal information over the phone and if there is any question about the validity of someone claiming to be a Bonner County law enforcement officer, contact Bonner County Dispatch at 208-265-5525.
