PLAN MEMORIAL ATHLETIC FIELD

The Sandpoint Athletic Booster club is advancing ambitious plans for developing a memorial athletic field at Sandpoint for the people of Bonner county. Recognizing the need of a playfield for athletics of all sorts, the club is planning for such a project. Heading the club are Thad Lowary, president, and Jack Bopp, secretary. The group’s purpose is to establish a “living” Bonner county war memorial to be called the Memorial Athletic field. Their plan for field development includes: fencing the athletic field with metal playground fence; relocating the football field to run north and south at the west end of the present field; installing five more floodlights and poles; moving present bleachers to the west side of the football field and constructing portable bleachers with a seating capacity of 750. As long range goals, the club contemplates an oval track with a 220-yard straightaway, baseball diamond, new grandstand for baseball, new bleachers for football, and adequate lighting for night games. The Legion and the V.F.W. have given the program their support.
