Aug. 1, 1973 – BOLD ROBBERY
Sandpoint police and other area law enforcement agencies continue their search for a young man who robbed Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce Secretary Barbara Remmers at knifepoint in her office Friday. The bold 10 a.m. robbery, committed directly across First Avenue from the sheriff’s office, netted the robber only $8.76. Mrs. Remmers was not harmed.

BOY SCOUTS ARRIVE FOR JAMBOREE
With their green shorts, red berets, and knee socks, thousands of scouts of all ages from all over the nation passed through Sandpoint on their way to 1973 Jamboree West, headed to Farragut State Park for the week-long national gathering. The Jamboree will be run just like any other city in the United States, with complete facilities and services, including a daily newspaper and radio station.

ADDY BLAZE IS PANHANDLE THREAT
The season’s first major fire erupted on the Kaniksu National Forest last Friday on a ridge overlooking Rattle Creek, 16 miles north of Clark Fork. The Rattle Creek fire, presumed to have been man-caused, was battled through the weekend by over 600 men before being brought under control Sunday. Monday focus switched to a new fire east of Addy, near the Canadian border in Boundary County, which had grown to 150 acres by 10 a.m. today.

Aug. 1, 1948 – ATTENTION PLEASE…
Due to the general economic conditions in Bonner county because of unseasonable weather conditions the Sandpoint Junior Chamber of Commerce hereby announces that the annual Labor Day celebration will not be held this year. The Retail Merchants association having set August 20 and 21 as the dates for their celebration, the Jaycees feel that economic conditions do not warrant the holding of two celebrations in such close proximity. Let’s all back the Retail Merchants’ Street Completion Celebration. Look for a bigger and better Labor Day in ’49. Sandpoint Junior Chamber of Commerce.

ABSENTEE BALLOTS AVAILABLE
Absentee ballots are available at the courthouse for voters who will not be able to be at their regular precinct polling places Aug. 10. County auditor Alex Russell said for the convenience of those who find it necessary to vote absentee ballots Sat., Aug. 7, the auditor’s office will be open all afternoon. Ordinarily the courthouse is closed at noon on Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Winfield West returned recently from a trip to Wyoming and other points in the midwest.
Phillip Dreisbach and Gary Maxwell Thursday and Friday visited Miss Louise Dreisbach at Hope.
John Selle and his sister, Mrs. Ed Raymond, are back from Flint, Mich., where they visited friends and relatives, returning through Yellowstone park.
