A GoFundMe page that was started for the family whose vehicle was hit by a train earlier last month has raised nearly $50,000 to cover funeral costs as well as medical expenses for the surviving daughter.

On July 15, the Shubin family was traveling eastbound on West Selle Road from North Boyer Road when their vehicle was struck by a train at an uncontrolled crossing. The car was forced off the road due to the impact, causing it to overturn.

Both parents, Mickey and Akasha, as well as one of the children, Jonathan, passed away in the accident. Their daughter, Charlotte Lynn, survived the accident and was flown by medical helicopter to a Spokane hospital for treatment. No further information is available on her condition.

Mickey’s brother, Matthew, started a GoFundMe to help with the costs involved with the incident.

“It goes without saying, funeral arrangements [are] costly,” the fundraiser page said. “As well, [so are] the medical expenses for Charlotte and the attorney that is needed to obtain guardianship.”

The fundraiser was created two weeks ago and has already raised almost $50,000 to cover those costs. Matthew thanked the community for coming together for the surviving family during this time.
