Jim Smith speaks out on statement, investigation

Following Bonner County Sheriff Daryl Wheeler’s statement and release of the 20-page investigation into allegations that former Bonner County Fair Manager Darcey Smith misused fair funds, her husband issued a statement rejecting that claim.

“Darcy is innocent. I am innocent. Our son, Austin, is innocent of the allegations brought forth in Daryl’s final report.

“It has been brought to our attention that there are glory seekers/attention mongrels making statements, accusations and insinuations as though we, Darcey’s family, are aware of and support their words. This is the farthest from the truth. These individuals are speaking for themselves and bear the responsibility of their remarks. Darcey’s family has in no way given blessing for anyone to speak on our behalf.

“As many people know in Bonner County, you get sued if you speak out against the ruling class. So I will leave it there. Thank you for giving me an opportunity to speak up, but in our interest, we would with the utmost respect decline to provide any further comments.”
