Robert Mahorney, 73

Robert "Bob" Eugene Mahorney, 73, passed away July 14, 2023, in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Bob was born Nov. 12, 1949, in Danville, Ill., to Robert and Rosemary Mahorney. His family moved to Long Beach, Calif., where he graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. Bob then joined the Marine Corps and fought in the Vietnam War; he later transferred to the Navy. He then moved to Indiana and attended Indiana State University, and got his bachelor of science degree in aviary engineering. Bob was also a gymnast champion of rings and the pommel horse during this time. After college, Bob moved back to Long Beach and worked for McDonnell and Douglas Aerospace Manufacturing as an engineer. When Bob retired, he moved to Sandpoint.

Bob was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Ponderay, Idaho. He was also a Star Wars fanatic, loved to study the stars, space, and anything to do with astronomy, was a Green Bay Packer fan, and loved anything to do with science.

Bob is survived by two nieces, Janene (Greg) Kain of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and Tamara Harati of Venice Beach, Calif.; a nephew, Mederick Jones of Tennessee; and two grandnieces and grandnephews, Adeleine, Sara and Gary.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Marna Dee Mahorney and Cheryl Bittle.
