Charles 'Bud' Johnson, 90

| August 23, 2023 1:00 AM

Charles A. "Bud" Johnson, 90, passed away peacefully in Sandpoint, Idaho, on Aug. 15, 2023, with his wife, Margo, by his side.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

Born in Yunnan Fu, China, to missionary parents, Bud lived in China until his family returned to the United States when he was 9 years old. The family settled in Turlock, Calif., where Bud graduated from high school.

Bud enlisted in the Navy, served as a weather observer in Guam, and was honorably discharged in 1953. He was a proud decorated veteran and, in recent years, enjoyed Sunday breakfasts with fellow veterans.

Bud's professional career was marketing specialty metals for Jorgensen Steel, where he was employed in Chicago and Southern California. Later, he joined Castle Metals in the Central Valley and resided in Reedley, Calif., where he tended 30 acres of orange groves and pasture for his horses.

In 1994, Bud retired to Sandpoint, Idaho, with his new bride, Margo. Sandpoint was his favorite place to be, near the lake, where he enjoyed fishing, sailing his boat "Viking Spirit," and golfing on the area's beautiful courses.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Rachel Johnson; and his brother, Paul.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Margo; his sister, Pearl Schultz; his daughters, Karen Johnson, Kathryn Johnson and Laura Neal; and his granddaughter, Rachel Johnson.

Lakeview Funeral Home in Sandpoint is handling the arrangements. Please visit Bud’s online memorial at www.lakeviewfuneral.com and sign his guest book.
