Cross Country
SANDPOINT — The Sandpoint boys and girls cross country teams both defeated Lake City by healthy margins at the annual Pine Street Woods Invitational on Friday.
For the boys, Sandpoint finished 1-3-5-6-7 en route to a 15-point victory. Senior Nathan Roche won the race, finishing the 2.6-mile course in 15:09. Senior Daniel Ricks also impressed, coming in third with a time of 15:37. Clark Fork’s Westin Caven posted a top 10 finish, finishing in ninth place with a time of 16:44.
For the girls, senior Lily Richardson dominated the field, winning the race by over one minute with a time of 18:33. Senior Grace Rookey finished in second place with a time of 19:45, about 45 seconds ahead of the closest Lake City runner. Freshman Elizabeth Storms finished in fourth in her first varsity meet, posting a time of 20:41. Sandpoint scorers finished 1-2-4-6-9 on the day.
“We did what I expected us to do,” head coach Mike Ehredt said. “Time to look ahead to the next race.”
The Sandpoint cross country team will compete again this Thursday at the Post Falls River Run held at Kiwanis Park.

Golf
COEUR d’ALENE — The Sandpoint girls golf team finished in second place at the Lake City Invitational, held at the Coeur d’Alene Golf Club on Monday.
Sandpoint’s Alexa Tuinstra posted a new personal best score of 79. Her score was good enough for second overall, just one stroke behind Lewiston’s Mollie Seibly, who has won almost every tournament this year. Not far behind Tuinstra was Taylor Mire, who shot a solid round of 84. It was Claire Loutsenhesier who came in third for the Bulldogs this time around, shooting a 93.
“Both Taylor and Alexa had a rough start on the first four holes, but finished strong,” head coach Mike Deprez said. “Claire also had a great score, finishing strong on the last four holes.”
For the boys, the Bulldogs took last place, finishing close to, but just behind, Post Falls and Lakeland. Logan Roos and Micah Young both shot under 90; Roos finished with an 84, while Young posted an 89. In his first varsity outing of the season, freshman Rajah Brown shot a 91 for the Bulldogs. Sandpoint was missing a couple of their varsity starters on the day, which surely made things a bit more challenging.
“Rajah had a great match right out of the gate,” Deprez said. “Logan McGrann also turned it around big time with a 45 on the back nine holes after posting a 55 on the front nine.”
The Sandpoint golf team will be back in action today in Post Falls at the Prairie Falls Public Golf Club.
