NOVEMBER PRECIPITATION SET RECORD

Sandpoint area precipitation set records in November, with 10.02 inches of precipitation and 33 inches of snowfall, both records. November’s moisture contributed to filling of springs, streams and reservoirs and has gone a long way to ending the drought which began a few months before the beginning of the 1973 calendar year.

LAST OF WAA PULLS OUT OF FARRAGUT

The WAA [War Assets Administration] closed shop last week end at the former Farragut naval center. A roving guard and periodic gate checkups will be maintained for fire protection and security. Much of Farragut is disappearing, with contractors expected to have most of the old naval buildings removed within a year. About 600 buildings remain to be wrecked. These, with the 38 belonging to the state of Idaho and some 260 leased to Farragut College and Technical Institute, are all that remain of the former $100,000,000 naval center.
